
Oak Hill has planted 80 trees after TVA clearcut its right-of-way in the hills east of Radnor Lake.
The city planted 80 crape myrtle, moonglow juniper, holly, and red maple trees measuring 1.5 to 2 calipers. The planting was made possible with an $8,000 matching grant with TVA and the City.

The second annual Nashville Cherry Blossom Festival is March 27, 2010. The event was established by the Japan-America Society of Tennessee to celebrate the close relationships of Americans and Japanese in the state.
The Sakura Matsuri support committee has a goal of planting 1,000 cherry trees over the next 10 years. MORE As part of this effort, Nashville Tree Foundation planted 49 cherry trees in November.

Nashville Electric Service donated trees for two major plantings this fall. NES provided the trees for Nashville Tree Foundation’s planting in Inglewood. The utility also donated trees for the Habitat for Humanity planting in Timberwoods.

Friends of Warner Parks is within $100,000 of the final funds needed to buy the Hill Tract.
The group has raised $200,000 to meet a challenge grant from the James Stephen Turner Family Foundation of $300,000.
Fulfilling the challenge will complete the $10.8 million campaign to buy 324 acres that include an old-growth forest. The property will then become part of Metro Parks. MORE INFO

Trees Nashville president Chris Armour received national recognition in November from Alliance for Community Trees.
Armour received a NeighborWoods Scholarship from ACT, a nonprofit urban forestry organization based in Washington, D.C. The scholarship was donated by The Home Depot Foundation, the leader in investing in nonprofit organizations that are in the business of building better communities through urban forestry.
Armour used the scholarship to attend the Partners in Community Forestry conference in Portland, Oregon.
TEC worked with Habitat for Humanity to plant 35 trees in the Timberwoods subdivision off Brick Church Pike and Briley Parkway November 7. The cast of “Little House on the Prairie: The Musical” were on hand to help plant the trees.

Volunteers for Historic Edgefield planted cherries, yellowwoods, hollies, and beeches among others in East Nashville in November. The plantings at East Nashville Free Will Baptist Church, Edgefield Baptist Church, and Warner School were part of a long-term landscape plan for the area.

About 15 volunteers planted 85 trees in the Bellevue area on Saturday, November 7.
The group collects pots and grows seedlings, planting them in neighborhoods every year. This year they planted American elm seedlings from a champion tree. The project is sponsored by the law firm of Stites & Harbison.

More than 250 volunteers helped the Nashville Tree Foundation plant 121 trees in the Inglewood neighborhood November 21.
They also planted 20 cherry trees and 10 white dogwoods provided by Project Blue Streams of the Cumberland River Compact in the Riverside Drive median. MORE
